What safety and hygiene protections are in place?

To ensure the highest level of safety, all of our tools are one-time use only. ALL blades, needles, hand tools, wipes, and any other product used during the procedure are disposed of as biohazardous waste after each appointment, giving each client peace of mind. We are a licensed tattoo studio and cosmetic salon and operate in accordance with Universal aseptic protocols.

What is Cosmetic Tattoo / Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, semi-permanent makeup, and cosmetic tattooing are interchangeable terms used for the same procedure, which involves implanting pigment into the skin to enhance one’s natural features. All treatments are considered permanent, and our team of artists offers an array of techniques, allowing for customized results for a wide range of people.

Does it hurt?

We do all that we can to ensure that the process is as comfortable as possible. Before the cosmetic tattoo begins, a topical anesthetic is applied to the area to minimize discomfort, followed by a liquid anesthetic during the procedure. Some clients may feel slight discomfort, but it’s relatively pain-free for most.

(NOTE that if you are a frequent smoker or receive treatment during your menstrual cycle, the pain level could be intensified.)

Who may not be a candidate for cosmetic tattoo?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals. As a precaution to avoid any complications, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on people who are currency pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are receiving fertility treatments, please consult with your doctor.

  • Very young individuals (without much consideration.) We don’t typically recommend that very young clients pursue cosmetic tattoo without much consideration. Tattoo pigments will never leave the skin unless there is laser treatment or saline removal to lift pigment. As years goes on, the pigment will sink into deeper layers of the skin, resulting in fading or shifts in color. As we age and wish to adjust the tattoo to fit our naturally shifting features, there is a risk of too much pigment already deposited in the skin. Pigment over-saturation in the skin will require a removal process in order to achieve a refreshed appearance of the tattoo. Although saline removal is a great option, multiple sessions are required over a length of time, so it is important to be aware and prepared for the commitment.

  • Those who are currently on prescription Accutane or have used it in the past year.

  • Individuals with certain medical conditions such as diabetes, autoimmune disorders (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), bleeding disorders, and epilepsy. Certain medical conditions may cause compromised healing and increased risks of infection. They may also affect how the skin retains pigment, potentially leading to unpredictable results. We recommend consulting with your medical practitioner prior to scheduling.

  • Individuals with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, heavy melasma, or chronic acne.

  • Individuals with exceedingly delicate and fragile or mature skin. Certain skin conditions and types may lead to uneven healing, poor pigment retention, or other unwanted outcomes.

  • Individuals on certain medications such as blood thinners and immune-suppressing drugs. Some medications can affect the body's healing process and increase the risk of complications during and after cosmetic tattoos. Consult with a healthcare provider to determine if your medications could interfere with the procedure.

  • Individuals with previous cosmetic tattoos. The presence of existing pigment can complicate the process. Correction or removal of the old tattoo may be required before undergoing a new treatment.

  • Individuals with keloid scarring tendency.

  • Individuals undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. Cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation can affect the body's ability to heal and the condition of the skin. It's generally advisable to postpone cosmetic procedures until after completion of cancer treatment and recovery.

Specific to Microblading

  • Individuals with very oily skin types and/or large pores.

Specific to Lip Blush

  • Individuals with chronically chapped lips.

Specific to Eyeliner

  • Individuals with glaucoma.

Prep + Healing Considerations

  • Botox and fillers must be done no later than 2 weeks before your appointment.

  • Avoid chemical peels at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before and after your procedure. Do not come to your appointment with a sunburn. In this case, email us at least 48 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule.

  • As with any tattoo, you must NOT enter any swimming pools, jacuzzis, or bodies of water of any kind.

  • Plan for your aftercare: no tropical vacations or triathalons etc. ;) for a minimum of 10 days after.

How long is the first appointment?

First Appointment: Two hours on average. During your appointment, we will consult with you the entire time ensuring we are on the same page. Much of the time is spent measuring, pre-drawing, and agreeing on the desired results and color. The actual procedure itself takes about an hour.

Follow-Up Appointment: The touch-up appointment will take about an hour.

Why is a follow-up appointment required?

In order to ensure that the cosmetic tattoo heals perfectly, a minimum of two treatments are usually needed 8-12 weeks apart on average. This first touch-up is included as it gives us the ability to correct any areas that possibly faded or allows the client to make suggestions if they want adjustments with the shape or color.

Long-Term Care Considerations

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure. Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.

  • Be mindful of products such as Glycolic Acid, Retin-A, AHA, face peels, and exfoliation. These products increase your cell turnover rate continued use could lighten the pigment, so keep these products away from the tattooed area.

  • Schedule Refresh treatments. To maintain the style and color of your cosmetic tattoo, annual or bi-annual refresh appointments are recommended.
